Sacred Book
By Nora Murphy
One day down in the deepest forest of New Hampshire, there lived an awful enchanter who was naughty. He’d never obeyed the castle rules. So one day, the enchanter went to his parent’s friend’s castle and snuck into the library and picked up a book. Suddenly, as the enchanter turned around, an old man with a light, fluffy beard startled him as the enchanter fell back into his chair.
“You must not read that book, for there is a curse that the book is sacred, no one has ever picked up that book. I would be careful, legend has it that there is a secret chapter that has the curse, anyone who opens it will be dragged into the story.”
“Oh please like I’m going to listen to an old hag like you “The enchanter said.
“I warned you…” and as the old man scurried off, the enchanter said “ Na it’s not true, it could just be, well, an old book.” He told himself.
That night back at the enchanter’s castle, he was lying in his bed when the old man’s voice came into his head and said once more. “I warned you… I warned you…” His voice whispered in the cool breeze. The enchanter decided to cut open the chapter, if he got pulled in how would he get out? What if the legend is true? Would I really be pulled into the story tale- forever? That very thought stayed open in his mind, until the very next day. That day the enchanter went up to the old man and asked. “Hey it’s me again. Yeah, I was wondering about the secret chapter, say I wanted to open it. How would I know what chapter it would be? ”
“Well you see there is a rhyme you have to solve, listen closely, the words will have to do something with you finding the chapter. Open the book not near the nook and turn 7 pages, you’ll see a word that has to say cages , count the letters one by one, then turn that many. Then, you’ll seek a thick page, that’s when you’ll know!” Then the old man zapped himself away. The enchanter went back home heard the old man’s words again, grabbed a knife and started cutting open the chapter. “At last, at last I finally… helpppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!” And the enchanter was gone like that!!!
