Gymnastics
By Arabella Gutierrez
I am Arabella and I am nine years old. I LOVE doing gymnastics! I have done gymnastics for six years or since I was three years old. I have done “team” for three years. There are four events: floor, vault, balance beam, and uneven bars. My favorite events are floor and bars I like floor because; Ariel’s are fun for me. An Ariel is a cartwheel with no hands. And a round off back tuck is a back flip without hands. They are fun for me because I go really high on the floor. I like bars because, I like to swing and flip on the uneven bars. Baby giants are really fun for me because you swing back on the high bar and you swing through the position of a dead hang{ a dead hang is where you just hang on the bar} and swing back onto the bar. But it’s kind of scary when you first try it.
I love doing gymnastics because you get to make up routines for beam to compete in competitions. For floor our coach, my coach’s name is Casey, lets us pick floor music and then she makes routines for us to compete. For vault we all have the same vault unless you are a different level. Bars also depends on what level you are for the routine. The gold routine is kip {a kip is you swing onto the bar] back hip circle {that’s when you swing around the bar} squat-on {that is when you jump onto the bar} grab the high bar and do a long hang pull over {that’s when you swing around the bar onto the top} do a back hip circle and do one swing and do a fly away.{ that’s a back tuck off the bar}
There are many different levels like in gymnastics JO, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, excel, optionals and so many more! I am in Excel. I go to a gymnastics place in Tracy, CA called Classic Gymnastics. I go to gymnastics Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday for two and a half hours. In those two and a half hours we actually get almost all of the events done. And maybe all of the events and some open gym! {Open gym is where you can do anything you want!} In excel there are six levels of excel; pre-bronze, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, and diamond. I am moving to gold this summer! It’s a big difference skill wise from Silver to Gold! I am kind of scared to move up like if I get bad scores but I bet I can do it if I work extra hard on the skills I need to move up and to get my routines perfect!
This summer our coach let us help give her ideas for leotards for competition! I hope one of the ones my group picked gets picked for the competition leotard! There were so many to pick from that my group only picked two. It was so hard! I’m so excited to see which leotard she picked! The two leotards my group picked are, one was all blue with electric blue stripes coming from both sides and diamonds on the stripes. The other one was black on the sleeves and a little on the top part, there was a swirl that was I think blue and then the rest of the leotard was white!
